- If you fail, you may not attempt the quest for another week.
- All spell effects are cleared prior to starting the quest.
- The quest is a fight to the death.
- There is a 30 minute time limit to find and kill the dragon.
- Surge and track are disabled.
- It is up to the player to loot the girth and skin the corpse.
The Dragon's Maze
The first part of the adventure is a random maze. All of the rooms are identical, so it is easy to get lost. An easy way through the maze is to drop a coin in the first room, then move in each of the six cardinal directions. Five directions will either be private or will bring you back to the first room. The sixth direction is your path to the dragon. Mark each successful advancement on a piece of paper. The maze has a total of 16 rooms including the start room and the final, preparatory room, "The Goal." Using this technique, you can navigate the maze in about 7-10 minutes.

Use the prep room to spell up and change out gear. From there, it's north to the dragon.

Tips on Facing the Ultimate Dragon
Namure's Leather Collar makes good UD gear. You sacrifice about 20 AC, but gain 100 on saves, which helps against the dragon's breath.

A full set of Hit-Point Gear will grant you an additional 590 or so hp. Spellup, switch to hp gear, quaff 3 Glacial Milk, then go to tankgear and advance.

Most classes can improve their ac by 30 by buying a Periwinkle Potion from Kelsee. It provides Barkskin.

While casters cannot Surge, they can Quicken. It behooves you to know what mana costs are associated with each quicken level and budget your mana accordingly.

Bring plenty of Glacial Milk!

"So you say I am too weak to create a fire hot enough
to reforge this ring and increase its value? Ha! Give
me an elemental source of heat, and I'll show you how
far a little persuasion can go."
As attributed to a Wizard, who set out to improve
a family heirloom. Indeed, the ring was found much
later - clasped by a charred set of finger bones
embedded in partially cooled magma.

Using an existing fire of exceptional power a caster is able to reforge
some items, raising the base protection value. The pure energy of perfect
gemstones will be consumed in the process: 1 stone to raise an item from
base 10 to 11, and 2 stones for base 11 to 12. All enchants are cleared
when an item is reforged, but item flags and level remain the same.

This method of reforging by use of a temporarily enhanced natural heat
source is just right to apply to Hero-level items. It will not succeed
with armor pieces below level 51 or above level 54, nor with items with
base armors above 11 or below 10.

The magical fire of the forge works equally well with any perfect gem type
and will consume whichever are first in your inventory.

Enchanting

Vanyar:

Enchanting is the process of using Enchant Weapon, Enchant Armor and Enchant Bow to improve an item of that type. While enchanting gear is not necessary, gear with enchantments are highly prized, especially hero level gear that is either single or double brilled.

Enchanting carries a price, however. One can either successfully enchant the item, adding either +1 hr/+1 dr (+2/+2 with a brilled enchant weapon), -2 AC (-3 AC with a brilled enchant armor) or +2 hit roll (+3 with a brilled enchant bow) respectively, the item can fade, explode, or nothing at all can happen. In the case of a successful enchant or a fade, the item will raise in level, depending on the level of the caster with respect to the item.

Enchanting items that already have enchantments on them appears to be more difficult, though much is governed by luck. While some items are easier to enchant than others, gear with armor class modifiers on them already, such as tank gear tends to be harder to enchant than items without, such as mana gear.

If you worship certain Gods and Goddesses then the odds of successfully enchanting will change based on your deity's presence. Every so often while enchanting you'll see the message "You feel the presence of <godname>!". Depending on who you worship this can be a good thing or a bad thing.

There is also some speculation that the ingame day and month affect enchanting. It is believed that "Day of Sun" / "Month of Sun" is a beneficial combination. Anyone who can attest to this or other combinations please post your results below.
Next up do Clotho, who holds the Spindle Of Golden Thread. Directions to her are sd4n3w3n2ws, q. Same deal, once its dead q to return to the beginning.

Last fate is Lachesis, who holds the Rod Of Fate. Directions: sd4n3w3nw2n2ese, q

Once you have all 3 tickets, go to the gypsy and give one of them to her. She'll reward you with the Fatewalkers.
Wizard Creation
Note: The wizard trainer, Threnadir, mentions rather clearly that wisdom is an important factor of becoming a wizard. Half-Elves cannot become wizards with 18 max wisdom, so you will presumably need at least 19 wisdom to become a wizard. Races presumed to have enough wisdom: Gnomes, Deep Gnomes, Centaurs, Tuataurs, and High Elves. There is also a quest involved to become a wizard (See: Book Of Exorcism)

Wizards at Hero Tier
Training
The usual rules of training stats apply: Wis first, then Int and Con. Dex is of value in lowering your unspelled AC.

Practicing
Beyond the usual buffing spells (foci, awen, concentrate, etc.), wizards make particular use of acumen and savvy in their spellup. The lack of fortitudes is a drag, but the relaxed rules on bots mean that its rarely difficult to find a spellup. During combat, I've found that flash, acid rain, and a quickened calm are quite useful. In the right area, acid rain and calm can be used to gather many mobs (I've seen as many as 10 in a room) together, and then the skillful wizard can flash, and acid rain them all together. This takes a bit of practice, but can greatly enhance a solo run. Obviously an arc charged shield is a plus in this situation.

Fighting
Soloing:
While difficult at first, wizards are at their heart, solo creatures. As a low-hero, start with simple areas such as rot cor. the section is uncursed, has for the most part unagressive mobs, who are prone to flee. Use a surge 2 disintigrate to kill them with about three surge 2 disintigrates. If you are getting hit a lot, or have poor AC, try using flash after the first round. Once you've built up your mana sufficiently, Tortuga cay is a caster's paradise. Even without flash, most tortuga's can be slain with 3-4 surge 2 disintigrates.
At about Hero-150, Wizards finally hit their stride. The extra hp, mana, and of course acid rain, ward, and med ii at hero 101 help a lot. Once you've built up confidence with tortuga, teleport into breen, and begin using flash and acid rain to knock out 3-4 mobs at a time. Do not stack acid rain spells, as they will fire whether there are mobs in the room or not.
Breen is a safe place to begin practicing your calm-flash-acid rain strategy. First find a room with 2-3 mobs. cast acid rain, then use a quickened calm to allow yourself to leave into another room. make sure that you are not sneak/movehidden/invis. In the next room, begin attacking the mobs as usual, and very quickly, the mobs will follow you into the second room. Using this technique, it's not difficult to gather many mobs in a room. Once you have a significant number, flash them, and take them down with acid rain. Wash, rinse, repeat. Once you have significant stats, (3Kmana, 1.5khp, -750 unsp AC) you should consider a larger, swarmier area such as ruined lairs. With at little practice, it is not hard to get 8-10 mobs in a room. At 95-150xp each, this can add up quickly. Watch your hp/mana however, as ruined lairs is cursed. CRs in lairs are quite messy and painful.

Tanking:
The lack of rescue makes a wizard a poor choice of tank.

Hitting:
meh...

Healing:
Surprisingly, wizards are not a bad healer/brandisher, especially with an arcane tank, such as a golem.
