Familiarity with every link and plate in his armor enables a fighter to take advantage of its best defensive capabilities. Once this skill is learned, you must remove all of your armor and re-equip it in order to reap the benefits of your newfound knowledge. This skill is available only to those whose specialty is fighting, and it is automatic once practiced to its highest level.
